ZETTLER Relays – Application Spotlight, March 2018.
The requirements placed on switching components in lighting technology are on one hand a very low energy requirement - due to low switching in this application - a lot of energy in long switch-on state would be needed and on the other hand a resistance to high inrush currents that occur at lamp loads.
For a manufacturer of lighting technology this could be realized in a common design with a bistable version of ZETTLERs AZ762P relay series. Opposite to monostable relays, bistable relays are only triggered by a pulse and therefore require energy only at the moment of switching and not over the entire switch-on time. In order to cope with the high capacitive inrush currents in the customer's application, ZETTLER engineers selected the AZ762P1-1AT design, with a tungsten premake contact which can switch high current at the moment of switch-on.
The relays are available with one or two coils to give engineers maximum independence in designing their circuit. The relays have a switching capacity of up to 20 A at 250 VAC with a maximum ambient temperature of + 70 ° C or 16 A at 250 VAC at 85 ° C. The electrical life is approved by UL with up to 100,000 switching cycles.
