ZETTLER Relays – Application Spotlight, May 2017.
The trend towards using renewable energies remains unabated. Attempts are also being made to use renewable energy in heating systems to further reduce the need for fossil fuels. Heat pumps convert the energy that already exists in soil, air or water into thermal heat.
A manufacturer of modern heating systems required a relay for a new generation of heat pumps to bypass the charging resistance for limiting the start-up current of a motor inverter that feeds the compressor motor. The requisite certification verifying that the heat pump had passed the glow wire test (GWT) to comply with the requirements laid down in IEC 60335-1 for household appliances could be realised with the "GW" version of ZETTLER's new AZSR131 power relay.
The relays have a switching capacity of up to 35 A 277 VAC at a maximum ambient temperature of + 85 °C. The electrical endurance of up to 30,000 cycles has been attested by the certification bodies UL and TÜV. Its usage in a heat pump demonstrates the versatile applicability of the relay, which was specifically designed for use in solar inverters. In the solar inverter, the relay disconnects the inverter from the mains public grid in compliance with IEC 62109.
ZETTLER's new AZSR131 relay series is manufactured cost-effectively at the company's automated production line in China.
